TEXTURES AND PATTERNS
TEXTURES AND PATTERNS
This is a short story about the experience I had during my elective in the second semester of my first year for architecture in KRVIA. It's an experience about how got to learn about an interesting aspect which is important for architecture as well has so many perspectives to it called as 'PHOTOGRAPHY'.
So, this was the time around November-December when generally our winter electives are held. We do get to choose them according to our priorities and interest in the elective available. This photography elective was my second choice because first one was something related to crafts in paper. When we students as group of student met for the first time it was all different energy altogether. Then we met the elective guide who was very excited for the elective week and wouldn't enough to see what quality of work we could produce in that given time slot. He showed his and other photographers work through books, articles and ppts. The work was really great and amazing art, He made us to see and make out the techniques, perspectives and figures behind each particular photograph, snapshots, etc. Each of his photograph or a snapshot had a story or narrative behind as well which helped in further processing the experience of the place he visited and any particular thing he was talking about.
After looking at quite a lot of work, he asked us about our ideas or the topic we are going to select for the elective where now I was completely blank and had no idea what to do further. After a lot of thinking I thought of maybe I can map out and capture the whole experience of my everyday particularly my route from my apartment to my college. So, I started to capture the photos right from my apartment to my college, taking snaps of whatever I see while walk throughout the whole route like the sandwich vendor, the main road, the beggar on the footpath, stray animals roaming around the garbage bins, people bargaining over the vegetable/fruit vendor, huge crowd of the college group of students over the salad and pani-puri stalls which are actually my favorite part of the daily route. After mapping the whole whole experience I showed to my elective guide which he liked but thought found something missing and told me work on it more, but literally I was so confused and actually blank.
While taking a walk around the college premises I found a lot of different patterns and textures on different things which I found very amazing and interesting and I thought what would be perfect than this topic for my photography elective. i proposed this idea to my guide who loved the concept/idea and he was very exited and thrilled to see the outcome. So, I got a lot of photographs of different patterns and textures around me.
The final outcome was amazing and for speaking for the guide he was very happy for me and to see the final outcome done so well for also which I scored an O in my electives and that my the award for my hardwork for this elective session for the whole week.
Overall the elective was much more fun than I thought but of hardwork as well. But I got to learn a lot from the guide and session particularly about the photography which was not a cup of tea for me but the interesting topic made it quite easier to do it and I had put all my heart on this project which clearly had the best outcome indeed.
